Using Real Debrid (aka RD) with Kodi

While I am not representing Real Debrid, I do highly recommend it as it does make a difference when using Kodi to stream Movies and TV Shows. I use it myself and hate using Kodi without it.
I do understand that one of the attractions of Kodi is that it is Free to get, and Free to use. Paying for it seems to contradict your reasons for getting Kodi. However, once you understand what Real Debrid does for you, it actually makes sense to pay the cost of one of the cheapest services you could ever purchase.
.
RD is located in the United Kingdom so all pricing is in Euros, but here is a quick breakdown.
* Package #1 (15 days) 0.20 euros (approximately $0.29 Canadian or $0.22 US) per day.
* Package #4 (180 days) 0.09 euros (approximately $0.13 Canadian or $0.10 US) per day.
That of course, works out to 32.85 euros (approximately $47.45 Canadian or $36.50 US) per year.

What you get in return are better, more reliable links. You will find more HD sources and faster sources to avoid the issues of free links which are, no sources found and buffering issues. There is nothing worse than watching a great movie that freezes every 10 minutes, or feeling forced to watch it in grainy standard definition. If you are looking for 4K, you "may" find some links through RD but without RD forget about 4K.
If you are running Kodi through a quality sound system, you also gain a better chance of better Dolby Surround options.

The added bonus of Real Debrid is to anyone looking at your internet activity, you are simply connected to a service in the UK. This is similar to using a VPN which some people use to hide what they are doing from their Internet Provider. Any chance to avoid using a VPN is well worth taking as it can slow your system down.
You can also download through Real Debrid by doing a copy and paste of the URL where your downloadable item resides. That includes things like YouTube Videos.

Register a Real Debrid Account

To start, you can click on my Real Debrid link and register a user account with a user name and password:
http://real-debrid.com/?id=1929504
Once you have set up an account with them, you can choose which package you want to start off with, by clicking on the menu option "Premium Offers" then click on "Subscribe" for the package you want. Your account will be credited immediately and you will be returned to your user account page. The top of the screen will show you when your subscription expires. You can make another payment any time to extend that expiry date. If your service expires you can reactivate it simply by logging in and making another payment.

As soon as your account is up and running, you can "Pair" Real Debrid with your Kodi. You will need to stay in your Real Debrid account (or log into it if you signed out) while having Kodi active as you need to switch from one to the other quickly. The active screen you need for Real Debrid is http://real-debrid.com/device. This is where you will enter a code obtained from your Kodi. It is a time limited code so be sure you can get to it quickly. For example, if I am setting up Kodi on my Android device, I have the Real Debrid screen in the browser of my Cell Phone. If I am using my computer for Kodi, I just have both running in two different windows.
Next, you will need to go into your Kodi.

Pairing your Real Debrid Account with Daemon or Midas

  • From the SYSTEM screen go up to and click on the Real Debrid widget.
  • Click on 1. ResolveURL then Authorize Real Debrid.
  • When you do that you will get a pop-up within a few seconds providing you with a code. This is the code you have to enter into your http://real-debrid/device web browser screen. The code is not case sensitive so don't worry about that. It also uses the letter O not the number zero. If you enter the code correctly, it will let you know with a green checkmark on the Real Debrid screen and the Kodi pop-up will disappear. If it doesn't work you can try again before your time runs out in Kodi. Don't panic, it gives you more than enough time so go as slow as you need to avoid typos.
  • Go back to the Real Debrid menu and do the same thing for #2, #3 and #4. You can skip #2 which is URLResolver as it's only used by older add-ons. I included it in case you start installing your own add-ons.
The #5 option for Shadow doesn't have a shortcut, but takes you into the Shadow settings where you can set that up for RD.
  • How to obtain a Hard to Find show using Real Debrid and the Seren Video Add-on

Looking for a Movie or TV Show that add-on searches can't find or can't play?
Perhaps you found sources but none of them really work. This can get frustrating.

If you have a computer and a Real Debrid account, there is an alternative method in finding sources.
Real Debrid does more than pull sources for video add-ons, it's also great for downloading.
If you are looking for "free samples" of movies, TV shows, computer software, music, games, apps, e-books or anime, then you should know about Torrent sites. You can directly download from Torrent sites, but you should use a VPN service before attempting that. However, you don't need a VPN service if you download via your Real-Debrid service.
As an example, I will source the second season of "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina".
Using my computer, and Google, I can do a search for "chilling adventures of sabrina season 2 torrent" and get lots of results. If I know of a Torrent site like https://ext.to/ then I can skip Google and go right to the Torrent site and do the search.
When I find what I am looking for, I will get a couple of options. I can simply do a download to my computer or I will see a "Magnet Link". It can be labeled as that, or may have a pic of a magnet (looks like the letter "U").
It's the Magnet link that I want for RD so right click on the Magnet link and choose "Copy Link Location".
Now log into your Real-Debrid account and go to the Torrents page. Right click in the box that says "Or paste your Magnet link here" and choose "Paste". After the link has been pasted into the box go below the box and click on the button that says "Convert". If successful you will get a pop-up window with your content selected for download. Click on the button that says "Start my torrent". This will load the content into your Real-Debrid account.

To view the content within Kodi, we can use the Seren Add-on. There are other ways but I use method as I have included the Seren Add-on in my Builds.
Go into Seren and from the menu choose "My files", then click on "Real-Debrid". This should bring up everything you downloaded into your RD account. Now you can simply click on the link and start streaming the videos.
The advantage of this is that you can find a direct source of your video content, rather than using Kodi to look for a source from multiple servers. It's also a more stable source so you shouldn't have buffering issues. The video will also play immediately, assuming the Torrent you downloaded was a good one. If you have issues with it, try the process again using a different source link. Just remember to delete the old links from your Real Debrid account or you will get a big mess when you pull it back up in Seren.
The only disadvantage to doing this is the extra time it takes to do a manual search of Torrent sites instead of just letting the video add-on find what you want. Not a big deal if you really want that hard to get video.

    Troubleshooting Real Debrid

If a video add-on doesn't seem to be listing RD sources, check your video add-on's configuration in case it has an RD switch not activated. If you don't see an RD switch then it's automatically activated. You will also find an option for "Debrid Only" which hides the free links. In some very rare cases I have gone to free links for older TV shows that RD couldn't find sources for. Kind of my "in case of emergency look here" scenario so I only turn this on for my primarily used add-on and leave it off for the others.

Real Debrid is great but not perfect. You will find a lot of links don't work, but a lot more work than without RD.
If you try to watch a movie and you get a "Codec error screen" then it's because that movie hasn't been released in digital format yet and is probably still in theaters. Just be patient and wait for it to be released.

Once you have an RD account, don't be a hero and share your account with friends and family. If Real Debrid suspects (by viewing your IP address) that you are sharing your account, they will shut you down.

If none of your RD links seem to be working, log into your RD account and make sure it hasn't expired.
You may also run into problems using a VPN with RD. RD acts like a VPN since you are going thru their service just like you would go through a VPN service, without slowing you down.
If you have any problems with RD, you will need to check everything before contacting them. I'd start with a speed test (located in the sub menu of the Midas SYSTEM screen) to ensure your internet connection is good. Then I would check your RD account to ensure it's still active.
Next, I would make sure I tested more than one video and more than one add-on to be sure it's not the add-on or video that has failed.
A final step would be to check the Reddit Board to see if any issues have been reported.

BTW, every time you pay RD, you earn "Fidelity Points". Once you have 1000 points you can cash them in for another 30 days of service. You will find that in your user account.
